Daily Life on the Homestead 8/28/2026

There’s really no such thing as a completely ordinary day around here.

Some mornings start quietly with coffee, a quick walk outside, and the sound of chickens already reminding me that they’ve been awake much longer than I have. Other mornings start with somebody escaping a pen, a drinker that somehow became full of bedding overnight, or a rooster announcing to the entire neighborhood that the sun has, once again, successfully risen.

That’s homestead life.

It’s feeding, watering, cleaning, planting, fixing, checking, carrying, hauling, learning, and occasionally standing in the middle of the yard wondering what you came outside to do in the first place.

But tucked in between all of that are the little moments that make it worth it — fresh eggs in the nest box, vegetables coming in from the garden, a bird you’ve been worried about looking better, or simply sitting outside for a few minutes watching the flock do what chickens do.

This series is going to be a look at the everyday side of Weekend Homesteaders — the chores, the animals, the projects, the mistakes, the small wins, and all the things that happen in between.

Because homesteading isn’t just the big projects.

Most of the time, it’s simply what you do every day.
